Shop Our Pottery Studio Essentials
Everyone knows about the pottery studio basics, but it takes more than just a wheel and a kiln to create a good work flow. Here are some of our favorite equipment & items that we use in our studio:
(Please note that these are affiliated links. If you prefer to avoid, do not click)
Main Studio:
1.) Rolling Wire Shelf - Holds your work as it comes off the wheel & to dry overnight.
2.) Liners for Wire Shelves - Prevents dried clay from falling onto wet pottery on shelves below.
3.) Extra Set of Rolling Wheels - Double your rolling space by creating two shorter racks instead of a single tall rack. All you need is an extra set of wheels.
4.) Egg Crate - Use it under your pieces when you are working on altering the form, adding handles, or as a cushion for pressing molds.
5.) Large Bakers Rack - The perfect place to let ornaments & other flat pieces dry without taking up much space in your studio
6.) Small Bakers Rack - Same idea, just on a smaller scale.
Glazing Room:
1.) Electric Skillet - This is THE piece you need on glazing days. Add paraffin wax (canning wax) to it, let it melt, then carefully dip the bottom of your pieces for an easy wax application. Set between 200-225 degrees F
2.) Paraffin Wax - This is our preferred brand, but any paraffin wax that melts should do the trick.
3.) Air Compressor - Used to clear off any debris or dust from pieces before glazing.
Shipping Products:
1.) Newsprint - Price on this can vary widely these days, but this listing is the one I check on the most.
2.) The Boxery - The place I go to for shipping boxes of all sizes. No affiliated link or sponsorship, just a great resource.
Other:
1.) Round Magnets - Perfect for adhering to the back of ceramic pieces
2.) Epoxy - Our tried & true product for securing just about anything onto ceramics
3.)
