About Us

Created by Carvel & Ashley Norman, Dirty South Pottery is a husband-and-wife owned and operated pottery studio located in the historic downtown of Winchester, KY (about 20 miles east of Lexington).

Our studio is located in a 1908 building on North Main Street, which we renovated into a dynamic studio, store front – opened in 2015. All of our work is created and fired on-site in one of our electric kilns, and visitors to the shop can watch our artists at work on the potter’s wheel in our demonstration area towards the back of the store. We volunteer our time to Main Street Winchester, a volunteer based program that helps our downtown grow and flourish.

We are focused on the idea of community with southern culture & hospitality, while keeping in mind the art of everyday ceramics. We were raised in the south seeing how families, as well as communities, bond over communal meals. Our chip and dip platters, dessert stands & other serving-based pieces are made with the idea of a shared source of nourishment in mind.
